MOVE has partnered with Sport Canterbury’s Tū Manawa Active As Aotearoa to bring artistic movement opportunities to students

Since 2024, MOVE has partnered with Sport Canterbury’s Tū Manawa Active As Aotearoa fund to deliver programmes into high schools.

Last year, secondary schools throughout Ōtautahi and Selwyn regions, including Ashburton College, Papanui High School, Hillmorton High School and Hagley College, were able to send students to a performance of “IYKYK” by Footnote Dance Company. This was followed by a workshop that inspired students’ joy of movement.

Further funding provided an opportunity for students to participate in a workshop by Taki Rua on breakdancing and tinikling (a traditional Philippine folk dance):

“It was extremely beneficial to be able to take our students to this which we wouldn’t have otherwise had access to” – Riccarton High School teacher.

With these being such a resounding success, we continued to bring taster classes and dance projects to secondary schools throughout 2025, bringing the joy of artistic movement to students. Most recently this saw Ashburton College students participating in taster sessions of hula hooping, juggling, jazz, hip-hop and capoeira for five weeks as part of their Active As programming.
