FAQs

I've never danced/done circus before – is this for me?

Absolutely! MOVE welcomes people of any age, level, and background. We offer beginner-friendly classes and create a safe, supportive environment for everyone to try something new.

What classes do you offer?

We offer a diverse range of dance, circus, and movement classes. Visit our classes page to see current offerings.

How do I book classes?

All bookings are made online using Mindbody as a booking system.

1. On our class page, use the filters to find a class that suits you.

2. Click on the class you want to try.

3. Click “Book now” at the top of the page.

4. Mindbody will ask you to log in or create an account to proceed.

5. On the class schedule page, locate the class and click “Sign up now”.

5. There are two booking options: you can either book in for one class by clicking “Make a single reservation”

OR choose book in for the term (or remainder of the term) by clicking “Make a recurring reservation”.

7. Select the appropriate pricing option: a Single Pass if you are only attending one class, or the Term Booking option if you are booking in for the term.

How do I book for family members?

You can add family members to your personal Mindbody account using the Family Account option.

To do this:

1. Click on “My Account” (found at the top of our website page).

2. Click on the Profile circle (it should have your initials in it) on the far left side of the screen, near the top.

3. Click on “manage account”.

4. You will be directed to another tab, where you can see your account details. Scroll down to the “Family” section, and click “Add Member”.

Here you should be able to add as many dependents as you want.

What if I don't want to create a family account?

Mindbody’s Family Account option is the default for all MOVE accounts, even if it is only you registered to the account.

If you’re setting up an account just for yourself, follow the steps below to complete your registration:

  1. On the “Add Family Members” screen, enter the account owner’s name (i.e. your name).

  2. If you don’t wish to add any family members, simply click the trash can icon to remove the Family Member section.

  3. Click “Next” to continue.

  4. On the “Confirm Account Owner” screen, select the owner and click “Create Family Account.”

If you need any help along the way, please don’t hesitate to reach out – we’re here to support you.

Can I just drop into a class?

Our term classes are open to drop-in bookings (where you just want to try one class) and term bookings (where you register for the 11 week course).

You are welcome to turn up to a class as a drop-in, however we cannot guarantee that there will be space for you; we would recommend checking the appropriate class page on the Mindbody app to make sure it has not been booked out.

How do I use the MOVE Concession Card?

We have two different concession cards: one for dance and artistic movement (which can be used for any class valued at $15) and one for circus (which can be used for any class valued at $25). When you buy a concession card, you pay for 9 classes and get the tenth free!

To purchase a concession card, click the appropriate card at the top of our classes page (or get one of each!).

The concession cards have been set up as a one-time “contract” – there is “one recurring payment for one month”, which simply means there’s a one-off payment for to purchase the card – you won’t be charged for another one once the first runs out, unless you choose to buy another.

The concession cards are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase, and can be used for any class with with corresponding concession card payment option.

Provided you have purchased the concession card, when you book a class (that fits the price criteria for that specific concession card), the included class pricing option/visits are applied automatically to that booking.

To see how many passes you have remaining in the Mindbody app by going to:

  1. Profile (bottom navigation)
  2. Passes tab
  3. Check the sessions remaining shown next to each pass (for example, 3/5) and the expiration date. You can also tap “Use Pass” to start booking with that pass.

In the Mindbody consumer site, you can see your remaining passes by going to the “My Info” tab, then opening the “Account” section to view your account details by pricing option (including purchase information).

Why did I not receive an email confirmation of my class booking?

To receive class reminders and schedule changes, you need to tick the “Schedule Updates” box at the bottom of your account profile page.

Why is my Mindbody Account not working?

If you are struggling to log into your Mindbody account, it could be that it is not verified.
To verify your account, log in using the Mindbody Universal login. A notification banner will display at the top to sync your profile with your Mindbody account. For more information, refer to the Mindbody account FAQ for users.

If your profile has a password already set, and you use your Mindbody account to log in, there is a chance you may receive an error in this process. If so, contact us directly and we can send verification email.

Can I book into a single class partway through the term?

You can book one of our term classes on a specific date – even if it’s partway through the term –  giving you the freedom to attend on dates that work with your timetable!

You can book either via our website, the Mindbody Consumer Site or the Mindbody app.

Can I pay at Parakiore reception?

No, the building reception is managed by Christchurch City Council and cannot process MOVE bookings. You don’t need to go to Parakiore reception at all.

All online bookings for our classes are paid for at the time of booking. Our classes offer card payment options at the door for drop-ins.

What do I wear?

For our dance and artistic movement classes, wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict your movement.

For our circus classes, wear comfy, stretchy, fitted clothing – leggings, track pants, shorts with a T-shirt or singlet work well. For aerial classes, it’s helpful to bring longer layers (long sleeves, long leggings, track pants or socks) to protect your skin when needed. Classes are done barefoot or in socks.

For safety and to protect our equipment, please avoid clothing with zips, remove all long dangling jewellery, and bring a hair tie if you have long hair. We may ask you to cover any piercings that can’t be removed as the aerial equipment loves to steal them!

Where can I park?

Free parking is available for 2 hours at the Parakiore car park.

When you arrive, you’ll need to input your vehicle registration into the parking machines inside, or use the Scan-2-Pay QR code.

To avoid the queue in the lobby, come upstairs to Level 2 and use the parking machine close to Studio 3.

How can I book a studio space for my group?

If you’re an artistic movement group or organisation please contact us about hiring a studio.
