The Storyteller (6-10 years)

A child’s journey of imagination and storytelling through African Dance.

Using the rich movements of African dance and the ritual traditions within it, Tamara guides children on imaginative journeys through storytelling in dance. She teaches a shared “vocabulary” of movements and invites children’s own ideas to help create choreography rooted in familiar tales, local stories of Aotearoa, and the changing seasons.

Children explore rhythm, beat, pauses and creating shapes with their bodies to express emotion, while also learning stretches to keep their bodies safe. Throughout the process, they build a supportive collective where they can confidently share ideas, collaborate, and weave their stories together.
