Southern Lion Dance – Entry Level Awakening

Southern Lion Dance is a vibrant Chinese cultural performance, known for its expressive and powerful lion movements, brought to life through a shared performance of dancers and musicians. Traditionally performed by two dancers as the lion’s head and tail, the dance is accompanied by live percussion that gives the lion its energy and spirit.

This class is designed for students with no prior lion dance experience and a moderate level of fitness. Participants will be introduced to the different roles that make up a lion dance, including Lion Head Dancer, Lion Tail Dancer, Cymbalist, Gong Player and Drummer.

Working together, the group will build the skills needed to perform a basic lion dance (Choi Cheng), developing coordination, teamwork, rhythm and a strong sense of connection through shared practice.
