Modern Jive for Older Adults (60+)

Come and learn a simple, fun partner dance that exercises both the body and the brain while enjoying great music and good company.
This class for older adults uses easy modern-jive beginner moves taught at a relaxed pace, with a soundtrack of classic artists you’ll recognise from the good old days. Come on your own or with friends – rotate partners or stick with your own, whatever you prefer.

We start from the beginning each week, so it’s fine to miss a class, join partway through the term, or simply drop in to see if it’s for you!
And we might even finish with a cuppa after a lovely session of dancing.

Modern Jive - Deb Robinson Profile Picture Updated - Jan 2026

Deb Robinson

Deb has been sharing the joy of social partner dancing in Christchurch for over 20 years alongside her husband, Matt. Beginning with ballroom dance in high school, she later discovered modern jive – a fun, accessible style that invites connection and self-expression. Deb now teaches dance full time and regularly competes and judges internationally. She believes dancing is for everyone and that you don’t need to be “good” at it to feel the benefits. Her classes are welcoming, social, and focused on building confidence, connection, and the simple joy of moving together.
