Māori Movement Fundamentals

A grounding introduction to Māori Movement.

This class blends kapa haka foundations, contemporary movement and storytelling to build rhythm, mobility, coordination, and confidence.

Suitable for all levels, Māori Movement Fundamentals focuses on body awareness, whakapapa of movement and expressing kōrero through the body in a supportive, inclusive space.

Savanah Tukariri

Savanah-Kui Tukariri (Kai Tahu, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Whātua) is a Māori creative with a deep love for movement, storytelling, and connection. With over 30 years of experience in kapa haka, her practice is grounded in te ao Māori and the wisdom of moving and expressing through the body.

Savanah leads poi and Māori movement workshops across Ōtautahi, creating welcoming spaces for cultural sharing, creativity, and community. Her work has been shared with organisations and festivals including the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, The Court Theatre, Sport NZ, Tiny Fest, WHAO Festival, the World Buskers Festival, and Tīrama Mai.
