Mahi Poi

Explore the art of Poi, a beautiful Māori practice rooted in rhythm, flow, and storytelling.

This welcoming, playful class supports coordination, balance and musicality while celebrating the joy of moving together.

Sessions gently blend technique, creative exploration and simple choreography, making the class accessible, energising and fun for all bodies and experience levels.

Poi will be provided for people that don’t have their own.

Savanah Tukariri

Savanah-Kui Tukariri (Kai Tahu, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Whātua) is a Māori creative with a deep love for movement, storytelling, and connection. With over 30 years of experience in kapa haka, her practice is grounded in te ao Māori and the wisdom of moving and expressing through the body.

Savanah leads poi and Māori movement workshops across Ōtautahi, creating welcoming spaces for cultural sharing, creativity, and community. Her work has been shared with organisations and festivals including the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, The Court Theatre, Sport NZ, Tiny Fest, WHAO Festival, the World Buskers Festival, and Tīrama Mai.
