Awareness through Movement®

The Feldenkrais teachers of Ōtautahi invite anyone interested in movement and wellbeing to experience The Feldenkrais Method®.

Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes offer a safe, supportive space to explore your body with no expectations of success. In these group sessions, you are guided through gentle movement explorations designed to help you move more freely, comfortably and efficiently.

The exercises draw on patterns from sports, dance, martial arts, natural neurological functioning, and developmental movements observed in babies and children. Movements take place on the floor and in a variety of positions – lying, sitting, kneeling, standing or walking – helping you expand your healthy movement options, improve body awareness and cultivate a relaxed yet attentive state.

Diane loves to move—whether outdoors on the water and trails or in gyms and dance studios. She has been teaching Awareness through Movement for 20 years and yoga for 10, guiding people of all ages and abilities. Drawing on her experience in gyms and movement studios, Diane blends different approaches to create classes that help students build self-awareness, improve fitness, and develop skills in a supportive environment. Above all, she aims to make every class fun, welcoming, and full of the joy of movement.

Jane Hardjono trained as a classical musician, worked in advertising, and explored a wide range of creative and embodied practices, including writing, painting, translating, and movement. In 2019, she began combining her experiences—writing, movement, inquiry, and coaching—to help others reconnect and find flow. Jane teaches writing craft and publishing pathways while also using embodiment and the Feldenkrais Method. Since 2024, she has been guiding students in Awareness Through Movement classes across Christchurch, creating welcoming spaces where learners of all abilities can reconnect with their bodies, build awareness, and move with confidence and joy.

Valerie has been a Feldenkrais Practitioner for 15 years, offering both group classes and hands-on lessons. With a background as a professional singing actor and teacher, and as a Certified Trainer of Nonviolent Communication, she brings creativity, empathy, and insight to her teaching. Valerie loves guiding active adults to notice habits that create tension or disconnection, and to explore movement that builds confidence, flexibility, stability, and ease. Her approach fosters connection—between body, mind, and community—helping every learner move with greater comfort, awareness, and joy.

With over 20 years in the movement world, Kelly is passionate about helping people reconnect with their bodies and rediscover ease in everyday movement. Since shifting her focus to Somatics in 2018, she’s supported students to gently release long-held patterns and move with more confidence and freedom. Drawing on training in the Feldenkrais Method®, CEI Somatics and Gentle Somatic Yoga®, Kelly creates calm, welcoming classes where everyone is encouraged to explore at their own pace. She believes movement should feel nourishing, accessible and empowering for all.
